Sabadilla Animal Clinic & Laser Centre - Our Doctors

Dr. Stan Gira

Dr. Gira was born in a small farming community. After receiving his diploma in Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, he decided to pursue his veterinary dream. Six years later, he graduated with honours from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice, Slovakia. Dr. Gira moved to Calgary in 2001 and spent a couple of years focusing on nutrition and the treatment of animal pain. In 2004, he accepted a position in Fort McMurray at one of the first practices in Alberta that utilized surgical and therapy lasers. This has since become his area of passion and interest.

In 2008 he returned to Calgary and opened his own practice, Sabadilla Animal Clinic. This was a big move, but it meant more room to focus on all aspects of animal pain. Dr. Gira is a member of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, the BC Veterinary Medical Association, and a former member of the International Veterinarian Academy of Pain Management. As an active 'animal laser enthusiast', he has spent the past two years traveling across Canada, spending a significant amount of time involved in laser training. He currently lives in Southwest Calgary with his wife Anna and their four children.

Dr. Robert Hagan was born in the northern community of Flin Flon Manitoba & after obtaining a BSc(Zoology) from the University of Manitoba he entered the Western College of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 1983.  The first step in his veterinary career was working at the Northern Veterinary Clinic in The Pas & Flin Flon Manitoba.  After 13 months of mixed animal practice Dr. Bob decided to move to Calgary to become a 100% small animal veterinarian & be much nearer the mountains.

The first year was spent as an emergency veterinarian in a large multiple clinic group followed by 5 years of locum veterinary services primarily in the Calgary area with a few side trips to northern Alberta & Manitoba.  Dr. Bob purchased the Crowchild Trail Veterinary Clinic in the southwest Calgary community of Lakeview on April 1, 1989.  He was the sole owner & veterinarian in the practice for over 28.5 years until the practice was sold in mid December 2017.  Now in partial retirement Dr. Bob has returned to his previous career as a locum/relief veterinarian working at various small animal clinics in the general Calgary area. Currently Dr. Bob & his wife Beverly share their home with their 20th adopted pet Cleopatra.  She is a middle aged cat adopted from one of his previous long term clients who had to move to a retirement care facility.
